Synthetic wheels from Blickle

Blickle Räder+Rollen offers synthetic wheels in different versions. Synthetic wheels consist of polypropylene, injected or cast nylon or tough cast nylon. Heat-resistant Blickle synthetic wheels are made of phenolic resin. The comprehensive Blickle Standard product range features synthetic wheels with a wheel Ø from 35 mm to 400 mm and a load capacity of up to 50,000 kg.

On request, Blickle produces customer-specific synthetic wheels.

Synthetic wheels – selection criteria


The following selection criteria must be observed when selecting synthetic wheels:
  •     Load capacity
  •     Wheel Ø
  •     Bearing type
  •     Condition of the floor
  •     Environmental factors, temperature, chemistry and corrosion

Determining the required load capacity for synthetic wheels


The required load capacity for a synthetic wheel is calculated using the weight of the transport unit and its load, divided by the number of load-bearing synthetic wheels. The result is multiplied by a safety factor dependent on the standard conditions of the synthetic wheels:

T = Load capacity per synthetic wheel
E = Weight of the transport unit
Z = Maximum load
n = Number of load-bearing synthetic wheels
S = Safety factor

For synthetic wheels, the safety factor S takes into consideration deviations from the standard conditions (smooth floor, walking speed, uniform load distribution, travelling straight, ambient temperature from +15°C to +28°C). In addition to the speed, the safety factor is influenced by the ratio of the wheel Ø to the height of the obstacle. The greater the deviation from the standard conditions for synthetic wheels, the greater the factor S that must be selected.

Starting and rolling resistance, operating noise and floor surface preservation of synthetic wheels


For synthetic wheels, the starting and rolling resistance is influenced by a wide variety of factors.

Starting resistance of synthetic wheels

The starting resistance is the force required to transition the synthetic wheels from a resting state to a state of motion. The force required to keep the synthetic wheels in steady motion is referred to as the rolling resistance. The starting and rolling resistance is influenced by the following factors:

  •     Wheel Ø
  •     Tread
  •     Tread & tyre hardness
  •     Elasticity of the tread
  •     Bearing
  •     Surface

Rolling resistance of synthetic wheels

Synthetic wheels generally feature a low rolling resistance.

The rolling resistance is measured using a test bench. The measurements for different reads are determined under ideal conditions:

    Level, smooth steel surface free of dirt and obstructions
    Speed: 4 km/h
    Temperature: +20° C
    Load: 2/3 of the max. load capacity

Under these standardised conditions, the rolling resistances of the synthetic wheels series and other treads can be compared. Deviating standard conditions (surface state, temperature, speed, etc.) must be observed when selecting synthetic wheels and can have a significant influence on the rolling resistance values.

Synthetic wheels – operating noise

In general, the following applies: Due to the hardness of their material, synthetic wheels generate more operating noise than wheels with a softer tread. The larger the wheels and the softer and thicker the tread, the quieter a vehicle can be moved. With low loads and a soft floor (carpeting), low noise emission and high floor surface preservation are also possible when using synthetic wheels.

Floor surface preservation

A harder tread strains the floor more than a soft one. The average floor pressure is characteristic for floor surface preservation. The following values can be taken as reference for the different tread materials for wheels:

Synthetic wheels:

  •     Polypropylene/nylon > 40.0 N/mm²
  •     Cast nylon > 60.0 N/mm²

Additional treads:

  •     Pneumatic tyre ~ 1.0 N/mm²
  •     Soft rubber ~ 1.0 N/mm²
  •     Super-elastic solid rubber ~ 1.5 N/mm²
  •     Elastic solid rubber ~ 2.0 N/mm²
  •     Solid rubber/polyurethane ~ 5.0 N/mm² (approx. 75° shore A)
  •     Polyurethane ~ 7.0 N/mm² (approx. 92° shore A)
  •     Thermoplastic polyurethane ~ 15.0 N/mm²
  •     Cast iron > 200 N/mm²
  •     Steel  > 400 N/mm²

Blickle nylon equipment synthetic wheels – POA series

POA series synthetic wheels are made of high-quality nylon, black, injection-moulded and feature a low rolling resistance. Ball bearing version: The injected, sealed ball bearing provides these synthetic wheels with excellent protection against dirt and moisture.
Bearing type: plain bore, ball bearing
Wheel Ø: 35 – 150 mm
Load capacity: up to 180 kg

Blickle polypropylene synthetic wheels – PP series

The PP series synthetic wheels are injection-moulded polypropylene wheels. They have a low rolling resistance and are extremely resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances. Under standard conditions, the synthetic wheels are maintenance-free; the wheels with roller bearings are lubricated with long-life grease. These synthetic wheels are available in black and white.
Bearing types: plain bore, roller bearing, ball bearing
Wheel Ø: 80 – 200 mm
Load capacity: up to 500 kg

In addition to the standard version, the following variants are available:

  •     Electrically conductive, black
  •     Stainless steel roller bearing

Blickle polyamide synthetic wheels – PO series

The PO series synthetic wheels are injection-moulded nylon wheels in a medium duty version. They have a very low rolling resistance, are extremely resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances and are maintenance-free under standard conditions; wheels with roller or ball bearings are lubricated with long-life grease. These synthetic wheels are supplied in natural white.
Bearing types: plain bore, roller bearing, ball bearing
Wheel Ø: 60 – 300 mm
Load capacity: up to 1,500 kg

  •     Electrically conductive, non-marking, grey version

Blickle 3-component synthetic wheels with low-noise operation- POW series

The POW synthetic wheel series are 3-component wheels. The wheel hub and the tread consist of high-quality, injection-moulded nylon. These synthetic wheels feature a high load carrying capacity with a very low rolling resistance. The highly elastic cushion layer made of solid rubber ensures very low-noise operation (-10 decibels) and absorbs any impacts and shocks. The synthetic wheels have a high abrasion resistance and are extremely resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances. Under standard conditions, the synthetic wheels are maintenance-free and lubricated with long-life grease. These synthetic wheels are supplied in white/red/white. The roller bearing version is supplied with axle tube and integrated synthetic thread guard.

Wheel Ø: 100 + 125 mm
Load capacity: up to 220 kg

Blickle heavy duty synthetic wheels – SPO series

The SPO series synthetic wheels are injection-moulded heavy duty nylon wheels. They have a very low rolling resistance, are extremely resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances and are maintenance-free under standard conditions; the synthetic wheels with ball bearing are lubricated with long-life grease. These synthetic wheels are supplied in natural white. In case of use as end wheels, the load capacity of the axle journal must be taken into consideration when dimensioning the journal.
Bearing types: plain bore, ball bearing
Wheel Ø: 75 – 250 mm
Load capacity: up to 2000 kg

In addition to the standard version, the following variants are available:

Blickle extra heavy duty nylon wheels – GSPO series

The GSPO series synthetic wheels are extra heavy duty nylon wheels made of tough, highly compressed cast nylon. They have a very low rolling resistance, are extremely resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances and are maintenance-free under standard conditions. These wheels are supplied in natural beige. In case of use as end wheels, the load capacity of the axle journal must be taken into consideration when dimensioning the journal.
Bearing type: ball bearing
Wheel Ø: 80 – 400 mm
Load capacity: up to 12000 kg

In addition to the standard version, the following variants are available:

  •     Plain bore version for static loads or extremely low speeds
  •     Stainless steel ball bearing
  •     Spherical roller bearing for applications operating in extreme conditions

Blickle flange compressed cast nylon synthetic wheels - SPKGSPO series

The SPKGSPO series synthetic wheels are flanged wheels made of tough, highly compressed cast nylon. Synthetic wheels made of compressed cast nylon have a very low rolling resistance, are vibration- and noise-absorbing as well as extremely resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances and are maintenance-free under standard conditions. The flange and the tread are machined, the tread with horizontal taper of 3°. The load capacities specified in the table refer to the assignment of flanged synthetic wheels to the rail profiles according to DIN 536 (crane rail standard) listed below:

These synthetic wheels are supplied in natural beige. In case of use as end wheels, the load capacity of the axle journal must be taken into consideration when dimensioning the journal.

Blickle heat-resistant synthetic wheels made of phenolic resin

Synthetic wheels made of phenolic resin consist of a thermoset synthetic material. They feature a very high static load capacity, are corrosion-resistant, suitable for maximum thermal requirements and are resistant to a wide variety of aggressive substances. However, these synthetic wheels are not resistant to strong acids and alkali. Synthetic wheels made of phenolic resin are only conditionally suitable for rough floors and crossing thresholds due to the high abrasive effect and the limited mechanical stability of phenolic resin. Black.
Phenolic resin can be used at temperatures from -35°C to +260° C, temporarily up to +300°C. The hardness is 90°±3° shore D.
Bearing types: plain bore, heat-resistant ball bearing
Wheel Ø: 80 – 200 mm
Load capacity: up to 500 kg

Synthetic wheels made of polypropylene – PP series

Synthetic wheels consist of thermoplastic synthetic material They are impact-resistant, non-marking, non-staining, corrosion-resistant, odourless, tasteless, physiologically safe and resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances, but not to strong oxidants or hydrogen halides. In addition, these synthetic wheels have a low rolling resistance and do not absorb any moisture. At high temperatures in particular, these synthetic wheels can swell up in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Natural white.

Polypropylene can be used at temperatures from -20°C to +60°C.
At ambient temperatures above +30°C the load capacity of these synthetic wheels is reduced.
The hardness is 70°±5° shore D

Nylon synthetic wheels – POA, PO, POW, SPO series

Nylon synthetic wheels consist of thermoplastic synthetic material. The synthetic wheels are impact-resistant, non-marking, non-staining, corrosion-resistant, extremely abrasion-resistant, odourless, tasteless, hygienic and resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances, but not to mineral acids, oxidants, chlorocarbons and heavy-metal saline solutions. In addition, these synthetic wheels have a very low rolling resistance. Nylon synthetic wheels can absorb and release moisture, resulting in size fluctuations depending on the moisture and temperature of the environment. Natural white.

Nylon can be used at temperatures from -40°C to +80°C, with higher temperatures possible temporarily. At ambient temperatures above +35 °C the load capacity of these synthetic wheels is reduced.
For use in high temperatures up to +250°C, a special heat-resistant nylon is used.
The hardness of these synthetic wheels is 70°±5° shore D/85°±5° shore D with special heat-resistant nylon.
Extra heavy duty synthetic wheels made of Blickle compressed cast nylon – GSPO, SPKGSPO series

Synthetic wheels made of compressed cast nylon consist of thermoplastic, reaction-injected synthetic material. These synthetic wheels are impact-resistant, non-marking, non-staining, corrosion-resistant, extremely abrasion-resistant, odourless, tasteless, hygienic and resistant to a wide range of aggressive substances, but not to mineral acids, oxidants, chlorocarbons and heavy-metal saline solutions. In load capacity, tensile and compressive strength, elasticity, shape retention and moisture absorption, synthetic wheels made of compressed cast nylon achieve better results than those made of injection-moulded nylon. In addition, it has an extremely low rolling resistance. Natural beige.

Compressed cast nylon can be used at temperatures from -40°C to +80° C, with higher temperatures permissible temporarily for these synthetic wheels.
At ambient temperatures above +35°C the load capacity is reduced.
The hardness is 80°±3° shore D.
The relatively high floor pressure of synthetic wheels should be considered for pressure-sensitive floors.

Blickle heat-resistant synthetic wheels made of phenolic resin – PHN series

Synthetic wheels made of phenolic resin consist of thermoset synthetic material. These synthetic wheels feature a very high static load capacity, are corrosion-resistant, suitable for maximum thermal requirements and are resistant to a wide variety of aggressive substances. However, they are not resistant to strong acids and alkali.
