More mobility, less noise

Blickle improves smooth rolling performance and operational comfort for Honda Robotics' UNI-ONE

With the UNI-ONE, Honda Motor has developed a modern mobility device that is used in a seated position and can still be easily controlled by shifting weight. The UNI-ONE is ideal for people with limited walking ability, but is also suitable for anyone who wants to cover longer distances comfortably and effortlessly.

However, acoustic challenges arose during series testing: a loud impact noise when the safety function was triggered to prevent tipping, significantly impaired the user experience. During the prototype phase, Honda Robotics tested casters from various manufacturers, but none of them met the high requirements. Honda Robotics therefore searched specifically for an alternative – and found it at Blickle.

LRA-VPA 50K – quiet, robust, and comfortable

LRA-VPA 50K

Blickle recommended the use of the LRA-VPA 50K, a high-quality swivel caster with non-marking, gray solid rubber tread (80 Shore A) and a shock-resistant bracket made of zinc-plated pressed steel. The robust design with a double ball bearing in the swivel head and the special Blickle riveting process ensures minimal swivel head play and increased service life. Four of these Blickle Casters are used as support wheels in the UNI-ONE. They stabilize the system reliably and at the same time enable quiet and smooth movement.

Significantly improved user experience

By using the LRA-VPA 50K, Honda Robotics was able to significantly reduce the annoying impact noise—a decisive factor in the acceptance of the innovative UNI-ONE. At the same time, stability and smooth rolling performance were improved, movement sequences were made more fluid, and operational comfort was increased—even with changing floor conditions indoors and outdoors. Thanks to the rapid availability of the Blickle solution, development and production processes were able to continue without delay.
